Jenna Lee Dewan (/d??w??n/; born December 3, 1980) is an American actress and dancer. She started her career as a backup dancer for Janet Jackson, and later worked with artists including Pink, Missy Elliott, and Christina Aguilera. She is known for her role as Nora Clark in the 2006 film Step Up. She has also starred on the short-lived NBC series The Playboy Club and had a recurring role on the FX series American Horror Story: Asylum. She portrayed Freya Beauchamp on the Lifetime series Witches of East End and played Lucy Lane in The CW series Supergirl. Dewan hosted the NBC reality competition television series World of Dance.

Early life

Dewan was born in Hartford, Connecticut, the daughter of Nancy Smith (nee Bursch) and Darryll Dewan, who was a running back on the 1972 Notre Dame football team.[2] Her father is of Lebanese and Polish descent and her mother is of German and English ancestry.[3][4][5]

As a child, Dewan moved frequently; she mentioned in an interview that she lived in seven cities before reaching the seventh grade.[6] While attending high school at Notre Dame Preparatory School in Towson, Maryland, Dewan was a varsity cheerleader. She transferred to Grapevine High School in Grapevine, Texas. She was also a varsity cheerleader there and was voted prom queen during her senior year. She went to University of Southern California and was a member of the California Gamma Chapter of Pi Beta Phi.[7][8]

Career

Dancing

Dewan first appeared in Janet Jackson's "Doesn't Really Matter" video in 2000, and later in "All for You" and the All for You Tour in 2001.[9] She credits working with Jackson for aiding her career, allowing her to later work with many other artists and giving her the experience necessary to co-star in the dance film Step Up.[10] In 2016, Dewan modeled as the face of dancewear manufacturer Danskin in a campaign and photo shoot that captured and featured her athleticism as a dancer.[11]

Acting

In 2006, Dewan co-starred with Channing Tatum in Step Up, as well as starring in Take the Lead that same year.

In August 2008, Dewan starred in the Lifetime made-for-television film Fab Five: The Texas Cheerleader Scandal which follows five rule-breaking teens. She portrayed the role of disciplinarian Coach Emma Carr. In November 2009, she appeared in the straight-to-DVD comedy American Virgin alongside Rob Schneider.

In March 2011, Dewan was cast in the NBC pilot of The Playboy Club. In May 2011, NBC picked up the series for a full season. She portrayed the role of Bunny Janie, a provocative Playboy bunny who works at a Playboy Club in Chicago in 1961. The series premiered on September 19 to 5.2 million viewers with mixed reviews from critics. Due to low ratings, NBC cancelled the series after just three episodes in October 2011.

In November 2011, Dewan starred in the film The Jerk Theory. This was first released in Germany in 2009. It was later released in the United States in November 2011.

Dewan appeared in the romantic-comedy film 10 Years, produced by her then husband Channing Tatum. The film was released on September 14, 2012. That same year, she appeared as Teresa Morrison in American Horror Story: Asylum, the second season of the horror television series.

In 2013, Dewan began starring in the Lifetime series Witches of East End as Freya Beauchamp, one of the lead characters. In late 2015, she began a recurring role in the CBS series Supergirl as Lucy Lane. Dewan's upcoming projects include The Wedding Year, Berlin, I Love You and Mixtape.[12][13][14][15][16]

33andOut Productions

Along with friends Reid Carolin, Adam Martingano, Brett Rodriguez and Channing Tatum, Dewan started a production company called 33andOut Productions.[17] Their first production is a documentary called Earth Made of Glass that follows Rwandan President Paul Kagame and genocide survivor Jean-Pierre Sagahutu. It premiered at the 2010 Tribeca Film Festival.[18] Dewan and Tatum collaborated in a YouTube Premium web television series Step Up: High Water, where they executive produced together.

Personal life

Dewan with Channing Tatum in 2010.

In 2006, Dewan met actor Channing Tatum on the set of their film Step Up. They began dating shortly after filming had finished.[19] The couple became engaged in early September 2008 in Maui,[20] and married on July 11, 2009,[21] at Church Estates Vineyards in Malibu, California.[22] Their daughter was born in May 2013 in London, England.[23][24] In an interview on the Late Show with David Letterman, Tatum explained that Everly's middle names are from Dewan's grandmother, Elizabeth, and his own grandmother, Maiselle.[25]

On April 2, 2018, after nearly nine years of marriage, the couple announced that they were separating.[26][27] Six months later, Dewan filed for divorce from Tatum.[28]

Since October 2018, Dewan has been in a relationship with actor, Steve Kazee. Due to Steve she has recently become a fan of WWE??.[29][30]

Dewan is an animal rights activist and a vegan.[31] PETA declared her to be one of three "Sexiest Vegans" of 2017.[32]

Dewan is raising her daughter as a vegetarian but says she will let her decide what to eat when she is old enough.[33]

Watch Channing Tatum And Jenna Dewan Adorably Flirt In Their Step Up Audition Video

In the history of Hollywood couples, there are few as cute as Channing Tatum and Jenna Dewan Tatum. The stripper-turned-actor and dancer-turned-actress met on the set of Step Up, which hit theaters back in 2006. Recently, Dewan Tatum shared a video that gives us a look at the time the two were auditioning for the movie. It was a match made in heaven, but they didn't know it, yet. They did flirt up a storm, however. You can check out the fun video, below.

The video was filmed in 2005, when the movie that spawned a franchise was just starting to come together. It's easy to see how much chemistry Channing Tatum and Jenna Dewan Tatum had early on, even when they were just practicing dancing with one. Tatum notes at one point that the audience can count the times she "giggle[s] and laugh[s]" in the video, and while it's totally true, it's not obnoxious to see them chat it up about how Channing Tatum is actually a very capable dancer. In fact, it's very apparent that Channing Tatum and his now-wife were totally into each other from the very beginning.

In the video, Jenna Dewan Tatum reveals she was just sent her audition tape for Step Up, and she decided to highlight her tape online so it coincided with the release of Step Up: High Water, an original series that just hit YouTube Red and that stars Ne-Yo. Apparently, those involved with the production found her original audition tape, sent it to her, and she felt it was adorable enough to share with the world. Watching it is not a bad way to spend a few short minutes, that's for sure.

Step Up was a huge stepping stone for Channing Tatum and Jenna Dewan Tatum. Although Take the Lead came out the same year as Step Up, it was a much bigger gig for Jenna Dewan Tatum and it led to a lot of work in movies and on TV, where she has appeared in projects like Supergirl, American Horror Story and Witches of East End. Following Step Up, Channing Tatum embarked on what would become a huge movie career, appearing in the G.I. Joe franchise movies and Public Enemies and more recently starring in Logan Lucky, Magic Mike XXL and much, much more. (He's also set to be the lead in Gambit, if that ever gets off of the ground.)

Clearly, Step Up was a special production because it amped up the careers of its respective leads, but it will likely always hold a special place in Jenna Dewan Tatum's heart because it's the set she met her husband on. The couple married in 2009 and had their daughter Everly in 2013.

OMG Channing Tatum & Jenna Dewan Tatum Are Going to "Step Up" Together Again!

Dance movie enthusiasts, prepare to lose your cool in 5,6,7,8...Step Up is getting a reboot!

Deadline just announced thatthe latestincarnation ofStep Upis going to be a TV series on YouTube Red. It'll be the YouTube subscription service'sfirst everfull-fledged, big-budget original drama series.

But more importantly, OG leadsChanning Tatum and Jenna Dewan Tatumare coming back in a MAJOR way asexecutive producers!

Right now, plot details are under wraps, but it's being described as a "heart-pounding, sexy, music-filled drama about dancers in a contemporary performing arts school." It's probably safe to assume we'll see aromance develop betweena posh ballet dancer andahip hop dancer, resulting in an epic finale showcasing an epic ballet/hip hop dance fusion. Watch... I'm calling it now.

Anyway, this news is amazing for too many reason to count. Since it's going to be a series, it means we're going to get a good 10 to 15 hours of newStep Up instead of the measly 1.5 hours we get every two years. And since Channing and Jenna will have a vested interest in the series doing well, maybe they'll even make an appearance on the show. And if not, they have to at least bring back Alyson Stoner and Adam G. Sevani as Camille and Moose.Am I right?!

*FINGERS CROSSED*

Guess we'll have to wait and find out!The show begins production later this year and will debut on YouTube Red next year.
