Christiane Martel (born Christiane Magnani on 18 January 1936) is a French actress and beauty queen who became the second woman to win Miss Universe in 1953.[2] She was the only Frenchwoman holding the Miss Universe title until Iris Mittenaere in 2016.

Martel was Miss Chatellerault in 1952. She was crowned Miss Cinemonde and represented France at Miss Universe 1953 where she became the second Miss Universe. She was crowned by actress, Julie Adams as Miss Universe 1952, Armi Kuusela of Finland gave up her crown.

Martel's runners-up in the 1953 pageant was Myrna Hansen of the USA, followed by delegates of Japan, Mexico, and Australia.

Shortly after her reign, Martel embarked on a successful career in international films, appearing in movies such as Yankee Pasha, So This Is Paris, Drop the Curtain, the 1956 version of Corazon salvaje (playing the villain Aimee), Viva el Amor!, Rosa Blanca and her last film to date, 1961's Leoni al Sole.

Martel was married briefly to Ronnie Marengo, a department store heir, whom she divorced in 1955.[3] In 1961 she married Miguel Aleman Velasco, who would become Governor of Veracruz and is the son of Miguel Aleman Valdes, former president of Mexico. They have three daughters and one son. Their son, Miguel Aleman Magnani is a stakeholder of Televisa and the owner of low-cost airline, Interjet.[4]

She made recent television appearances at the Miss Universe pageants in 1989, 1993, and 2007 that were held in Mexico. She was a celebrity judge at the Miss Universe 1978 pageant. Her last television appearance was on 3 December 2011 at the Miss France pageant.

Christiane Magnani Martel (Piennes, Francia; 18 de enero de 1932) es una actriz y reina de belleza francesa que se convirtio en la segunda Miss Universo de la historia del certamen, en 1953.[1]?

De ascendencia italiana y francesa, nacio en Nancy, Francia en 1932, desde joven gano varios certamenes de belleza juvenil locales (Miss Chatellerault 1952), Martel fue coronada Miss Francia por el saliente dueno del certamen, Claude Godart lo que le valio representar a Francia en el concurso internacional.

Al ganar Miss Universo en 1953 fue coronada por la actriz Julie Adams[2]? en virtud de que la saliente Miss Universo 1952, Armi Kuusela de Finlandia, renuncio a su corona antes de terminar su reinado. Estuvo brevemente casada (70 dias) con el comerciante Ronnie Marengo entre 1954 y 1955 quien la introdujo en Hollywood.

En Mexico, a partir de 1954 desarrollo una dilatada carrera actoral filmando unas 32 peliculas al lado de renombrados actores mexicanos de la epoca de oro del cine de ese pais. Martel se retiro del cine mexicano a mediados de los 60 cuando conocio una fiesta en la casa de Emilio Fernandez a quien es su actual segundo esposo, Miguel Aleman Velasco quien fue gobernador del estado de Veracruz y actual miembro del directorio de Televisa y propietario de la linea aerea Interjet, con quien tuvo 4 hijos.

Fue parte del jurado en Miss Universo en dos ocasiones en 1978 y 2007. Martel ha contribuido en diversas obras filantropicas en el pais azteca.
